Synta: big pharma assets, small pharma speed
In addition to the focus and energy that come from working in a fast-paced,
entrepreneurial, passion-driven organization, Synta has many of the strengths
of a mature drug development organization:
-
Potential of our first-in-class pipeline: Our lead drug,
ganetespib, has demonstrated compelling anti-cancer activity in multiple
targeted patient populations, including in lung cancer and breast cancer, and
has shown a favorable safety profile in over 450 patients treated to date.
-
Strength of our support: Results with ganetespib have generated
broad interest in the scientific and medical communities, evidenced by the
extensive number of ongoing or initiating trials sponsored by investigators,
foundations, or cooperative groups. These trials, as well as an additional
several dozen research collaborations, involve leading cancer centers in US,
Europe, and Asia.
-
Size of our opportunities: Ganetespib is being evaluated in
over 20 ongoing, recently completed, or currently initiating clinical trials
including studies in non-small cell lung, breast, colon, gastric, prostate,
pancreatic, melanoma and hematologic cancers. Each of these therapeutic areas
presents a major unmet medical need and a very significant patient base. The
other drug candidates in our diverse pipeline also represent first-in-class
opportunities targeting major unmet needs.
-
Integration of our scientific and clinical capabilities: We use
our integrated discovery, translational, and clinical research capabilities to
identify the patients most likely to derive benefit from our drug candidates
and further strengthen our intellectual property position.
-
Productivity of our discovery platform: Our unique chemical
compound library – proprietary compounds collected over two decades from
industrial and academic sources not typically found at pharmaceutical firms –
combined with our high throughput screening and in vivo modeling capabilities;
our medicinal, computational, analytic, and process-development chemistry
expertise; and our in vitro and in vivo toxicology and DMPK experience allow us
to continue to generate promising new drug candidates each year.
-
Flexibility of our strategic position: The benefits of full
ownership of all commercial rights in all geographic regions to our programs
provides the flexibility of multiple options for choosing when, with whom, and
under what type of structure to partner with larger pharmaceutical companies.
-
Strength of our intellectual property position: We have an
extensive intellectual property portfolio consisting of over 700 issued or
pending patents. All Synta compounds currently in clinical trials represent
novel chemical structures protected by issued or allowed composition of matter
patents, as well as a robust package of related structure, mechanism,
formulation, manufacturing, and administration patents.
-
Experience of our team: Our management and employees have
experience in all stages of drug discovery, development and commercialization.
In addition to developing our current pipeline from discovery through late
development, the Synta team has collectively been involved in the pre-clinical
development, clinical development, and commercial launch of multiple leading
drugs for treating cancer, inflammatory diseases, and other serious medical
conditions.
